The doors of freight lifts usually open vertically, Even though sometimes older freight elevators have wooden gates in place of solid metal doors.The reason these lifts are designed with vertical doors were to maximizing the size of freight that can be loaded into the car while minimizing the hoistway space needed to accommodate it.This also eliminates the possibility of hitting and potential damage to the doors during loading and unloading. Horizontal doors are also limited in how wide the entrance can be. These lifts are used to lift carts, bullocks, etc.
