PASSENGER ELEVATORS
This elevator has ropes that pass over a wheel attached to an electric motor located above the shaft. The main function of the ropes is to raise and lower the elevator car. It can be used for both mid and high-rise applications and can travel much faster than hydraulic elevators.
Traction Elevators are of two types: geared and gearless.
In geared elevators, A motor is attached with a gearbox which increases the power of a wheel that moves with ropes. Geared traction elevators can travel upto 500 feet in a minute. The maximum distance it can travel is 250 feet only. Whereas in gearless traction elevators they don’t have a gear for speed regulation. Because of this gearless feature this elevator can travel 2000 feet in a minute.
